" Geologists have a saying - Rocks remember."
Neil Armstrong

Abseiling is a great outdoor activity for groups and individuals alike. If you are planning a trip away for either a Hen weekend, school trips, family holiday or coming as an individual or couples. Abseiling and rock climbing have become very popular, especially through social media platforms. This has increased numbers using popular climbing venues all around the Lake District. As we want our customers to get the most from their session we have created our very own outdoor climbing and abseiling venue with a mix of man made and natural rock holds and a ten metre abseil wall, its private so you will get it to yourselves!

What is abseiling?

Abseiling is an activity which has its roots in climbing and mountaineering. Abseiling is used as a way to retreat off high alpine climbing routes and is now enjoyed by many as an exciting alternative activity. It is also known as Rappelling from the French word "rappeler" meaning to recall or to pull through.

It can be nerve wracking, is a huge adrenalin rush and is a fantastic activity to push your limits!

We often use Hodge Close which is a venue close to Coniston and which provides a fantastic location with the most beautiful surroundings, the abseil here is approximately 80 feet in height, unfortunately this venue has seen heavy usage over the past three years and is not ideal.

For your abseiling event or session
Adventure
21
will kit you out with a harness and helmet, then firstly attach you to a safety rope and then to static abseil rope using a figure of eight descending device and a karabiner. Using the  figure of eight descending device you will make your way down the abseil rock face at your own pace, guided by your personal instructor. With an
Adventure
21
instructor holding the safety rope this ensures your safety at all times. If you let go, your instructor has you safe at all times.

Abseiling with
Adventure
21
is an exciting activity, start off small and move up to something more challenging, here are a few videos to see what its all about.

My adult kids and I had a really fun day abseiling and gorge scrambling with Adventure 21 last week. Thanks to Paul for great instruction, and to Kety for straight forward booking process. The gorge scrambling definitely gives the body a thorough workout !!!!

Kilsby,
Friendly people and amazing experience

Abseiling and canyoning. Booking was simple. All the staff on the phone and running the activities were so helpful and friendly . They really put my son at ease as he was on his own. He had an amazing experience and absolutely loved it, achieving much more than he thought he was capable of. Just to hear his enthusiasm after coming back from canyoning was great! We will certainly recommend Adventure21 to anyone looking for something different and exciting to do while in the lakes.

Abseiling with Dave
Booked our 1st ever abseiling experience with Adventure 21. Meet our instructor Dave and immediately he made us feel calm and talked us through the whole experience. Had a fantastic morning and would thoroughly recommend doing this experience.

Abseiling at Hodge Close Quarry

My mate and I went abseiling with Adventure 21 on Sunday 7/7/19 at Hodge Close quarry near Coniston in the Lake District. We were joined by a family from Australia and our instructor for the day. Mark our instructor was first class and talked us through the activity, while offering support and encouragement to some of the younger members of our party who were scared / apprehensive at the prospect of doing the activity. The abseil itself was fantastic and Hodge Close quarry was a beautiful location. Overall our experience with Adventure 21 was excellent, well organised, safe and of course fun! Highly recommended!!!
