The café building was built by the Furness Railway Company when the rail network was brought to Coniston in 1860. It's purpose was as accommodation for the crew of the original S.Y Gondola which plied the lake in those Victorian days.
At the café we offer a wide selection of good food and drink including a selection of beers and wines, as well as offering a large selection of gifts and Campbell and Bluebird Memorabilia.
The café forms part of the Lake District National Parks, Coniston Boating Centre, who run their own boat hire and launching from the site. As well as this, other enterprises include the Coniston Launch and the National Trusts S.Y. Gondola, which both have daily sailings on the lake.
The Bluebird Café has outstanding views from all the seating especially from the patio, which looks down the lake and over to the east side of Coniston Water, where Brantwood estate and Grizedale Forest are situated.
At
we like to be able to advise our customers where to stay, where to eat and where to have the best laugh in the best company. The Bluebird is great for teas and coffees and has an excellent evening menu, you can often see the
staff having a brew in the cafe.
