What is abseiling?
Abseiling is an activity which has its roots in climbing and mountaineering. Abseiling is used as a way to retreat off high alpine climbing routes and is now enjoyed by many as an exciting alternative activity. It is also known as Rappelling from the French word "rappeler" meaning to recall or to pull through.
Its nerve wracking and a massive adrenalin rush; a fantastic activity to push your limits!
We often use Hodge Close which is a venue close to Coniston and which provides a fantastic location with the most beautiful surroundings, the abseil here is approximately 90 feet in height.
For your abseiling event or session
will kit you out with top of the range harness and a helmet, then firstly attach you to a safety rope and then to static abseil rope using a figure of eight and a karabiner. Using the figure of eight descending device you will make your way down the abseil rock face at your own pace and guided by your personal instructor. With an
instructor holding the safety rope this ensures your safety at all times. If you let go, your instructor has you safe at all times.

Abseiling with Dave
Booked our 1st ever abseiling experience with Adventure 21. Meet our instructor Dave and immediately he made us feel calm and talked us through the whole experience. Had a fantastic morning and would throughly recommend doing this experience.

Abseiling at Hodge Close Quarry
My mate and I went abseiling with Adventure 21 on Sunday 7/7/19 at Hodge Close quarry near Coniston in the Lake District. We were joined by a family from Australia and our instructor for the day. Mark our instructor was first class and talked us through the activity, while offering support and encouragement to some of the younger members of our party who were scared / apprehensive at the prospect of doing the activity. The abseil itself was fantastic and Hodge Close quarry was a beautiful location. Overall our experience with Adventure 21 was excellent, well organised, safe and of course fun! Highly recommended!!!

Abseiling, and the views!
Fantastic session abseiling in the beautiful Hodge Close - Paul was great and very encouraging - we had a brilliant time, easy to follow instructions and safety was reassuring. Lovely group too and couldn’t ask for a better site to abseil - stunning! Would absolutely recommend to anyone who’s keen to get outdoors and try something new, the perfect way to spend the weekend.

Top stag activities!
Just back from a weekend in the lakes for a stag do. I organised the weekend and was recommended to use Adventure21. The communication I had when enquiring, booking and then sorting out the finer details with Adventure21 was first rate with fast and informative responses at every step. On the day from the start instructors Dave and Pete approach the it with humour and charisma but quickly switched to serious safety protocol at the appropriate points. Abseiling in the morning was good fun and even the lads with a fear of heights were supported and subtly encouraged so they went well out of their comfort zone with no drama. After a few descents we all got well into it. After a lunch break we got kitted out for the gorge scramble. This was an amazing session. Great combination of wading up the river and scrambling up waterfalls and finishing with some increasingly challenging (or should I say ******* scary) jumps off waterfalls and ledges. plenty of encouragement but no pressure from Dave and Pete to jump. Over all the day was exceptionally well organised with knowledgeable, enthusiastic and fun instructors. The lads loved it and we were all buzzing after. We're talking about booking another day with them next year to do it all again!!
