Setting out around 6.00pm on saturday 16th August you will pack all your kit into the boats and survive over night by the side of the lake, cooking over the open fire and sleeping in hammocks and under tarps! The next day will be spent around the breakfast fire and working on boat handling skills and returning by 4.00pm.

5th, 6th and 7th September 2008, 2 nights accomodation and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday at Harrys Lodge House in Coniston in the Lake District (see details on our accommodaton web page). Starting on Saturday 19th September with a ridge walk taking in the summit of Coniston Old Man. After packing the open canadian canoes in the early evening we will paddle down Coniston Water to the wild camp site. After setting up hammocks and tarps in camp you will enjoy home cooked food over the open fire by or expedition cook and a night of fun and story telling around the campfire. Following breakfast on day two and breaking camp we will paddle back up the lake by canoe.

Instructor ratio: 6 pupils 1 instructor
Pre-requisites: pupils must hold a BCU 2* award or be able to confidently perform specified strokes from the 2* syllabus (forwards paddle, reverse paddle, stopping, turning and perform an Eskimo rescue). A separate course can be provided to learn these strokes on request if needed.
Course aims: to introduce the necessary skills to paddle safely on white water, including planning, safety, leadership, group awareness, correct choice of equipment and understanding river features. The coaching is designed to show that you are proficient to undertake a journey as a member of a group being led on grade 2 moving water.
