What is abseiling?
Abseiling is an activity which has its roots in climbing and mountaineering. Absailing was and still is used as a way to retreat off high alpine climbing routes and is now enjoyed by many as an exciting alternative activity.
For abseiling you will be kitted out with a harness and a helmet then attached firstly to a safety rope and then to static abseil rope using a figure of eight and a karabiner. Using the figure of eight you will make your way down the abseil rock face at your own pace. With an instructor holding the safety rope this ensures your safety at all times.
Other terms for abseiling from around the world include, rappelling or rappeling, abbing, jumping, rapping, roping down, roping, seiling, snapling, snappling, snappeling.
Abseiling is an exciting activity, start of small and move up to something more challenging !
